Damon Smile System

The Damon System is not just about revolutionary braces and wires, it’s a whole new way of treating patients! Traditional treatment often requires the removal of healthy teeth and/or the use of palatal expanders to make space, which can feel uncomfortable, take longer, leave a narrower arch and a flat profile.

Damon Clear

For patients looking for the same Damon Smile with an aesthetic option, Bovenizer & Baker Orthodontics in Cary, NC offers clear braces. Our translucent clear braces are the “prettiest” option, with the biggest advantage being barely noticeable. Clear braces are made of monocrystalline clear ceramic.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Early Orthodontic Treatment

Benefits of Early Orthodontic Evaluations

Early evaluation provides both timely detection of problems and greater opportunity for more effective treatment. Prudent intervention guides growth and development, preventing serious problems later. When orthodontic intervention is not necessary, an orthodontist can carefully monitor growth and development and begin treatment when it is ideal.

By the age of 7, the first adult molars erupt, establishing the back bite. During this time, an orthodontist can evaluate front-to-back and side-to-side tooth relationships. For example, the presence of erupting incisors can indicate possible overbite, open bite, or crowding or gummy smiles. Timely screening increases the chances for an incredible smile.

Adult Treatment

Advances in the World of Adult Orthodontics

The new techniques and appliances we use greatly reduce discomfort levels, decrease the frequency of visits, shorten treatment time, and may allow you to choose from several options, such as metal braces, translucent braces, or transparent aligners.

During your initial examination, we will be able to determine the best possible treatment for your individual needs. We will also outline the treatment plan, the time of treatment expected, and the approximate cost.

A large percentage of our patients are adults, and they agree that it’s never too late to improve their greatest asset – their smile.

Surgical Orthodontics

How Surgical Orthodontics Works

After determining that a patient is a good fit for orthodontic surgery, they will wear braces and visit their doctor for adjustments during orthodontic treatment in preparation for surgery. As the braces move the teeth, it may feel as though the bite is getting worse, rather than improving. However, once orthognathic surgery repositions the jaws, the teeth will properly fit into a good bite. Orthognathic surgery is performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in a hospital, and it can take several hours, depending on the amount and type of surgery needed.

Lower jaw surgery requires separating the jawbone behind the teeth and moving the tooth-bearing portion of the jawbone backward or forward as needed.

Retention

Removable Orthodontic Retainers

Maxillary wrap-around retainers are your upper retainers, which are removable. You must be very careful when handling your upper retainers, as they are fragile and costly to replace. You are given a special case for your retainer; please make sure you keep them in this case when they are not being worn. To clean your retainers, brush them with toothpaste (sometimes with denture cleaner) and warm water.

Your orthodontic retainers should be worn at all times except while eating and brushing your teeth. Your retainer should also be removed when participating in sports that require a mouthguard or while swimming. After 12 months of full-time wear, we may revise your retention treatment, allowing the retainer to strictly be worn at night.
